Being prochoice is being prolife

I‘m sure by now we have all heard about the overturning of Roe vs Wade on June 24th 2022 by the US Supreme Court. This means that the protection to access abortion that has been there for nearly 50 years has been reversed putting women across the country‘s lives at risk. In addition , by overturning Roe v Wade the Supreme Court is essentially saying that the right to privacy is not guaranteed in the constitution. Obviously , this decision immediately affects people with a uterus in the country , meaning the US government can stick its nose into a medical decision between a person with a uterus ,their God or lack of.

Most people ask , what does this overturning have to do with the rest of us and in this case particularly Zimbabwe. We need to realize that this lack of privacy isn’t just going to be an American problem, but a worldwide problem. If the US can make abortion illegal what’s stopping the rest of the world from following suit if they have not already done so.

We are not doing the child any favors by forcing women to have them , an unwanted child is usually an unloved child. So as a prolifer do you really care for children outside of the womb ? Or are you just pro-birth ? Pro-zygote and embryo because you can’t stand the thought of a woman partaking in sexual activity, getting pregnant and not actually wanting the child. Because after forcing a woman to have the child , you don’t provide any resources to help her fend for her child , you don’t aid the foster care system with donations. In fact you even shame woman who are open to adopt those unloved children because God forbid they aren’t having children of their own blood.

Let me make this clear I am not pro-murder…

• But I am pro-Linda , who fought so hard to leave her abuser and when she was finally free she realized that she was carrying his child.

• I am pro-Tatenda , who was raped when she walked home from work only to later find out that she is carrying the rapists baby.

• I am pro-young Emma , who had her innocence ripped away from her , by someone who was meant to love and care for her and now her little 10 year old body can’t go through the process of pregnancy.

• I am pro-Nandi , who prayed for years to conceive only to find out at 22 weeks that the beautiful rainbow baby has no vital organs or is growing in her Fallopian tube.

• I am pro-Maka who has to work 2 jobs in order to fend for herself and her family , and has now found out she’s pregnant and has a choice between starving her real life children or going through this pregnancy.

• I am pro-Wendy who had sex on her prom night only to find out later that the condom broke and is now forced to choose between being a teenager or a mom and bride.

• I am also pro every woman who has the perfect conditions for being a mom but simply doesn't want to be one, because that's enough reason.

You can argue that I am prochoice if you like , but I am not , I’m prolife , their life , the women’s lives.

Just as Kamala Harris said, "If you stand for freedom , for self-determination , for the right to privacy , if you stand for these principles … stand with us."

Us women did not fight for more than a century for our rights for nothing , abortion is a human right , and we must not stop fighting to make sure we get the equality we deserve. To have our OWN choices on what to do with our bodies without the government coming in.
