If I were to spend the next year of my life in the past or future, I would spend it in the past. I would love to travel back in time to the 80s because they were the best decade to live in and completely different from what we live like now. The 80s had their very own fashion style, even if it was totally hideous. Every decade looks ridiculous in hindsight but the 80s were on another level, you had shoulder pads, leg warmers, biker shorts, side ponytails and even man ponytails, everything was just over the top. And not to mention everybody seemed a lot less self-conscious, the reason why they had crazy fashion sense was because nobody cared or was embarrassed about it. They would put on velvet tracksuits, converse high tops and neon head bands and go out to a party without thinking twice. And I personally find that super cool, I could just imagine myself in biker shorts, leg warmers and over sized t-shirt with a neon headband. These days everything you do, and wear is judged by society and you become insecure and cannot wear what you want to because your scared of what the cool girls are saying about you.
Back then they didn’t really care for TVs and they didn’t have Wi-Fi like we do now, and I know that teenager in today's world would not survive without Wi-Fi let alone their phones. You had a lot of fun things to do, like riding a bike was very popular and for lots of 80s kids this was how they got around. Nowadays teens are more likely to ride in a vehicle, then walk or ride a bike, but not the bus or taxis, but rather their own cars. The mall was the best place to be for a teen in the 80s and so was the arcade with the latest games.
Playing lots of sports was also a big thing and considered popular. You would write notes on paper to your friends explaining your deepest thoughts and feelings. You could easily erase and rewrite. But teenagers now send a quick text full of abbreviations and slang. we speak a shortened version of the language and we must be careful about what we write because even if we delete it, it’s never really gone, someone could hack into your phone and get it.
Anyway, the 80s had the best music, and with the help of MTV certain artists became big stars. The four biggest musical stars in the 1980s were unquestionably; Madonna, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Prince. But no one used MTV better than Madonna. It's amazing to think that Madonna is the only one of those still alive today. I know that children of each decade think their music was the best, but, unless you're a child of the 80s, you're wrong. Let’s not forget the best movies of all times; The Breakfast Club, 16 candles, Back to the future and E.T. So that's why life was better in the 80s: it was just simpler and sillier. And sometimes simple and silly in a complicated and serious world can look pretty good.
Yasssss!!! And all the 80s kids said... (Amen)!!!!
The nostalgic rush I felt reading this, guys!
Life really had a simplicity that I feel now only exists in parts of Scandinavia (I just love their back to basics way of life. Can’t wait to travel there)...
Beautiful piece! I could see the vivid colours of the era even before the images you embedded had loaded!👌🏾
This is so accurate..
